Multi-million dollar revamp of Mooloolaba Holiday Park and boardwalk begins

An iconic Mooloolaba location is receiving a multi-million dollar face-lift to ensure it remains a destination-of-choice for Sunshine Coast residents and visitors.

Sunshine Coast Council is delivering $3.8 million for the upgrade of The Mooloolaba Holiday Park at Parkyn Parade

“Our holidaymakers deserve contemporary facilities which meet their needs and the industry trend for larger caravans, motorhomes and camping trailers requires larger sites,” Divisional Councillor John Connolly said.

The park will be closed from 1 July until early December while the current facilities are demolished and replaced with high quality, modern amenities.

“This extensive $3.8 million upgrade will replace the 75 small powered sites with 60 larger sites, all with improved access, new amenities including a camp kitchen, landscaping and improved connections to the beachside boardwalk.

The new improved facilities include new decking, an eating area, public amenities and manager’s buildings, a new camp kitchen, and new landscaping.

“I’ve met many people who have made treasured memories and life-long friends while staying at the Mooloolaba Holiday Park.

“I am delighted council will be able to provide them with the latest conveniences that patrons have come to expect when holidaying.”

Construction is scheduled to start on 1 July 2019 and is expected to be completed in early December prior to the Queensland Christmas school holidays (weather and site conditions permitting).

A $500,000 renewal of the northern section of the Mooloolaba Spit Boardwalk will coincide with the redevelopment of the holiday park and is anticipated to be complete by late September, weather permitting.

This is the second and final stage of the $2.5 million boardwalk renewal, a joint initiative of Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

Undertaking these projects at the same time and outside the peak summer tourism period allows council to minimise disruptions to the community.

“The Mooloolaba Spit Boardwalk is a popular route for walkers, runners and riders in our healthy, smart, creative community, as well as those out enjoying the natural beauty Mooloolaba is famous for,” Cr Connolly said.

“Stage one has been very well received by the community and involved widening pathways and improving beach access.

“Stage two of this project will deliver further improved beach access, along with new public seating and lighting.

“The widened pathway will provide improved access for people with a disability and better cater to the growing crowds during busy times.”

The holiday park site is being redeveloped in keeping with the design of the Mooloolaba Placemaking Plan for the Mooloolaba foreshore.

This project is one of many Mooloolaba infrastructure projects council is investing in to create a world-class destination for our residents and visitors to enjoy.

Income generated from the Sunshine Coast Holiday Parks business unit will fund this project.
