Containers for Change Sunshine Coast | Recycle, Refund and Donate to Charity

The introduction of the state-wide "Containers for Change" refund scheme in November last year, gives people an incentive to collect and return containers for recycling, in exchange for a 10 cent refund payment.


Several charities on the Sunshine Coast have registered with the scheme, which means you can recycle your containers, and help the environment and local charities at the same time!

How do I donate my container refund to charity?


To donate your refund to one of these charities, simply enter their code when you return your refundable containers to a collection point near you.

Where can I take my containers for a refund on the Sunshine Coast?

There are 23 locations across the Sunshine Coast where residents can drop off their containers and collect or donate their refunds.

♻ Remember to take bottle tops off before depositing. Keep labels on bottles deposited at reverse vending machines.

✔️ Which drink containers are included?

As part of the scheme, you can receive a refund for most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L.

After a period of transition, all eligible drink containers will have to display a refund marking that will make it easy to see which containers can be returned for a refund.
 

🚫 Which drink containers are excluded?


A number of drink containers are not eligible for a refund under the scheme. These include: all containers that are smaller than 150mL and bigger than 3L, plain milk containers, glass containers which have contained wine or pure spirit, large containers (1L or more) which have contained flavoured milk, pure juice, cask wine or cask water, cordial or vegetable juice containers, sachets above 250ml which have contained wine, registered health tonics.
